updating ProxySQL version Overview
This guide will give you an overview on how KubeDB Enterprise operator update the version of ProxySQL
instance.
Before You Begin
- You should be familiar with the following
KubeDB
concepts:
How update Process Works
The following diagram shows how KubeDB Enterprise operator used to update the version of ProxySQL
. Open the image in a new tab to see the enlarged version.
The updating process consists of the following steps:
At first, a user creates a
ProxySQL
Custom Resource (CR).KubeDB
Community operator watches theProxySQL
CR.When the operator finds a
ProxySQL
CR, it creates required number ofStatefulSets
and related necessary stuff like secrets, services, etc. Then, in order to update the version of the
ProxySQL
the user creates aProxySQLOpsRequest
CR with the desired version.KubeDB
Enterprise operator watches theProxySQLOpsRequest
CR.When it finds a
ProxySQLOpsRequest
CR, it halts theProxySQL
object which is referred from theProxySQLOpsRequest
. So, theKubeDB
Community operator doesn’t perform any operations on theProxySQL
object during the updating process.By looking at the target version from
ProxySQLOpsRequest
CR,KubeDB
Enterprise operator updates the images of all theStatefulSets
. After each image update, the operator performs some checks such as if the oplog is synced and database size is almost same or not. After successfully updating the
StatefulSets
and theirPods
images, theKubeDB
Enterprise operator updates the image of theProxySQL
object to reflect the updated state of the server. After successfully updating of
ProxySQL
object, theKubeDB
Enterprise operator resumes theProxySQL
object so that theKubeDB
Community operator can resume its usual operations.
In the next doc, we are going to show a step by step guide on updating of a ProxySQL using update operation.
