How update version Process Works
The following diagram shows how KubeDB Ops-manager operator used to update the version of Pgpool
. Open the image in a new tab to see the enlarged version.
The updating process consists of the following steps:
At first, a user creates a
Pgpool
Custom Resource (CR).KubeDB
Provisioner operator watches thePgpool
CR.When the operator finds a
Pgpool
CR, it creates required number ofPetSets
and related necessary stuff like secrets, services, etc. Then, in order to update the version of the
Pgpool
the user creates aPgpoolOpsRequest
CR with the desired version.KubeDB
Ops-manager operator watches thePgpoolOpsRequest
CR.When it finds a
PgpoolOpsRequest
CR, it halts thePgpool
object which is referred from thePgpoolOpsRequest
. So, theKubeDB
Provisioner operator doesn’t perform any operations on thePgpool
object during the updating process.By looking at the target version from
PgpoolOpsRequest
CR,KubeDB
Ops-manager operator updates the image of thePetSet
.After successfully updating the
PetSet
and theirPods
images, theKubeDB
Ops-manager operator updates the image of thePgpool
object to reflect the updated state of the database. After successfully updating of
Pgpool
object, theKubeDB
Ops-manager operator resumes thePgpool
object so that theKubeDB
Provisioner operator can resume its usual operations.
In the next doc, we are going to show a step-by-step guide on updating of a Pgpool using updateVersion operation.
