How update version Process Works
The following diagram shows how KubeDB Ops-manager operator used to update the version of Pgpool. Open the image in a new tab to see the enlarged version.

The updating process consists of the following steps:
At first, a user creates a
PgpoolCustom Resource (CR).KubeDBProvisioner operator watches thePgpoolCR.When the operator finds a
PgpoolCR, it creates required number ofPetSetsand related necessary stuff like secrets, services, etc. Then, in order to update the version of the
Pgpoolthe user creates aPgpoolOpsRequestCR with the desired version.KubeDBOps-manager operator watches thePgpoolOpsRequestCR.When it finds a
PgpoolOpsRequestCR, it halts thePgpoolobject which is referred from thePgpoolOpsRequest. So, theKubeDBProvisioner operator doesn’t perform any operations on thePgpoolobject during the updating process.By looking at the target version from
PgpoolOpsRequestCR,KubeDBOps-manager operator updates the image of thePetSet.After successfully updating the
PetSetand theirPodsimages, theKubeDBOps-manager operator updates the image of thePgpoolobject to reflect the updated state of the database. After successfully updating of
Pgpoolobject, theKubeDBOps-manager operator resumes thePgpoolobject so that theKubeDBProvisioner operator can resume its usual operations.
In the next doc, we are going to show a step-by-step guide on updating of a Pgpool using updateVersion operation.
