How update version Process Works
The following diagram shows how KubeDB Ops-manager operator used to update the version of FerretDB. Open the image in a new tab to see the enlarged version.
The updating process consists of the following steps:
At first, a user creates a
FerretDBCustom Resource (CR).KubeDBProvisioner operator watches theFerretDBCR.When the operator finds a
FerretDBCR, it creates required number ofPetSetsand related necessary stuff like secrets, services, etc. Then, in order to update the version of the
FerretDBthe user creates aFerretDBOpsRequestCR with the desired version.KubeDBOps-manager operator watches theFerretDBOpsRequestCR.When it finds a
FerretDBOpsRequestCR, it halts theFerretDBobject which is referred from theFerretDBOpsRequest. So, theKubeDBProvisioner operator doesn’t perform any operations on theFerretDBobject during the updating process.By looking at the target version from
FerretDBOpsRequestCR,KubeDBOps-manager operator updates the image of thePetSet.After successfully updating the
PetSetand theirPodsimages, theKubeDBOps-manager operator updates the image of theFerretDBobject to reflect the updated state of the database. After successfully updating of
FerretDBobject, theKubeDBOps-manager operator resumes theFerretDBobject so that theKubeDBProvisioner operator can resume its usual operations.
In the next doc, we are going to show a step-by-step guide on updating of a FerretDB using updateVersion operation.
