How update version Process Works
The following diagram shows how KubeDB Ops-manager operator update the version of MSSQLServer. Open the image in a new tab to see the enlarged version.

The updating process consists of the following steps:
At first, a user creates a
MSSQLServerCustom Resource (CR).KubeDBProvisioner operator watches theMSSQLServerCR.When the operator finds a
MSSQLServerCR, it createsPetSetsand related necessary resources like secrets, services, etc. Then, in order to update the version of the
MSSQLServerthe user creates aMSSQLServerOpsRequestCR with the desired version.KubeDBOps-manager operator watches theMSSQLServerOpsRequestCR.When it finds a
MSSQLServerOpsRequestCR, it halts theMSSQLServerobject which is referred from theMSSQLServerOpsRequest. So, theKubeDBProvisioner operator doesn’t perform any operations on theMSSQLServerobject during the updating process.By looking at the target version from
MSSQLServerOpsRequestCR,KubeDBOps-manager operator updates the images of thePetSet.After successfully updating the
PetSetand theirPodsimages, theKubeDBOps-manager operator updates the image of theMSSQLServerobject to reflect the updated state of the database. After successfully updating of
MSSQLServerobject, theKubeDBOps-manager operator resumes theMSSQLServerobject so that theKubeDBProvisioner operator can resume its usual operations.
In the next doc, we are going to show a step-by-step guide on updating of a MSSQLServer using UpdateVersion operation.
