KubeDBconcepts:
How update version Process Works
The following diagram shows how KubeDB Ops-manager operator used to update the version of Cassandra. Open the image in a new tab to see the enlarged version.
The updating process consists of the following steps:
At first, a user creates a
CassandraCustom Resource (CR).KubeDBProvisioner operator watches theCassandraCR.When the operator finds a
CassandraCR, it creates required number ofPetSetsand related necessary stuff like secrets, services, etc. Then, in order to update the version of the
Cassandradatabase the user creates aCassandraOpsRequestCR with the desired version.KubeDBOps-manager operator watches theCassandraOpsRequestCR.When it finds a
CassandraOpsRequestCR, it halts theCassandraobject which is referred from theCassandraOpsRequest. So, theKubeDBProvisioner operator doesn’t perform any operations on theCassandraobject during the updating process.By looking at the target version from
CassandraOpsRequestCR,KubeDBOps-manager operator updates the images of all thePetSets. After successfully updating the
PetSetsand theirPodsimages, theKubeDBOps-manager operator updates the image of theCassandraobject to reflect the updated state of the database. After successfully updating of
Cassandraobject, theKubeDBOps-manager operator resumes theCassandraobject so that theKubeDBProvisioner operator can resume its usual operations.
In the next doc, we are going to show a step by step guide on updating of a Cassandra database using updateVersion operation.
