How Update Version Process Works
The following diagram shows how KubeDB Ops Manager used to update the version of Hazelcast. Open the image in a new tab to see the enlarged version.
The updating process consists of the following steps:
At first, a user creates a
HazelcastCustom Resource (CR).KubeDBCommunity operator watches theHazelcastCR.When the operator finds a
HazelcastCR, it creates required number ofStatefulsetsand related necessary stuff like appbinding, services, etc. Then, in order to update the version of the
Hazelcastdatabase the user creates aHazelcastOpsRequestCR with the desired version.KubeDBEnterprise operator watches theHazelcastOpsRequestCR.When it finds a
HazelcastOpsRequestCR, it halts theHazelcastobject which is referred from theHazelcastOpsRequest. So, theKubeDBCommunity operator doesn’t perform any operations on theHazelcastobject during the updating process.By looking at the target version from
HazelcastOpsRequestCR,KubeDBEnterprise operator updates the images of all theStatefulSets. After successfully updating the
StatefulSetsand theirPodsimages, theKubeDBEnterprise operator updates the image of theHazelcastobject to reflect the updated state of the database. After successfully updating of
Hazelcastobject, theKubeDBEnterprise operator resumes theHazelcastobject so that theKubeDBCommunity operator can resume its usual operations.
In the next doc, we are going to show a step-by-step guide on updating of a Hazelcast database using update operation.
